The Book of Genesis doesn’t just tell us God created the world…it lays the foundation for everything we wrestle with: good and evil, beauty and brokenness, purpose and rebellion, order and chaos, judgment and mercy, death and promise, etc..

I spent most of my life believing reality was shaped by things like your mindset, hard work, self-confidence, and some sort of cosmic karma that rewarded what was righteous and punished what was evil. I saw enough evidence in my own life to be believe this to be true, or at least true enough to be satisfied with it.

But after putting my faith in Jesus and actually getting to know the nature of God, I came to a sobering conclusion: getting what I wanted was not the same as knowing the truth. And also…God’s will for my life always leads to the best outcome.

Genesis is where the Bible lays the foundation for the answers to questions that other religions and spiritual practices don’t satisfy: Why are we here? Where did we come from? Do we have free will? What is the purpose of life?What happens after death?

I used to dismiss Genesis as a collection of moral fairy tales. Now I understand why it had to be the first book.
