TOUGH QUESTION | What is "Baptism"?

“What does it mean to be baptized and what do water baptisms mean for someone like me, who knows they received the Holy Spirit without it?”

I put this in the “Tough Questions” series for a reason.. which is that often times certain theological arguments are not difficult because Scripture is unclear.. Instead, and most often, the area of study proves itself challenging because one English word is carrying several contexts, translations, forms, and sometimes an entire doctrinal system that Is known only by knowing the rest of the Bible in its context.

Baptism is one of those topics. The deeper you study it…from the Hebrew tabal to the Greek baptizō, from Naaman in 2 Kings to the disputed passages in the New Testament…the more you realize that precision does not weaken faith, but insteaed strengthens your faith through your understanding of the truth.

Diligent study and wrestling with these topics are what protects us from making one verse say more than it does, and from making another say less..ultimately, from being deceived. The word matters, the grammar matters, the context matters, and ultimately the Holy Spirit leads you into all revelations that bring you back to the Christ at the heart of every mystery in the Bible. Get baptized today and give your life to Jesus Christ. He is the truth and He WILL change your life, so long as you’re willing to surrender it. 👀✝️
