GUIDEBOOK | [42] | Gospel of Luke
I used to think the Old Testament was the setup and the Gospels were where the “Jesus part” finally began. But Luke does not present Jesus as a religious figure who appears halfway through history with a new moral teaching. Luke traces Jesus back to Adam because he is showing that Jesus is not only Israel’s Messiah, but the answer to the human problem that began in Eden.
Luke begins like an investigation, rooted in witnesses, places, rulers, events, death, and resurrection. But it ends with the risen Jesus on the road to Emmaus explaining Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms as Scriptures that were already pointing to Him. He is teaching us how to read what had already been written. Once you see that, the Bible becomes much harder to dismiss as disconnected ancient literature…in fact, it eventually becomes the only truth you can be certain of.
