PROPHETIC PROFILE | 7 Days of Creation

Genesis 1 may be one of the most prophetic chapters in the entire Bible.. hidden in the deliberate design of the seven days of creation.

I used to read it as exactly what it says it is: the beginning. Then I started noticing that God never seems to abandon the patterns He establishes there. Six days of work, then rest. Six years of working the land, then rest. Seven sevens, then Jubilee. Hebrews reaches all the way back to the seventh day of creation and says there still remains a Sabbath rest. Revelation ends with Christ reigning for a thousand years. At some point, I had to stop treating those parallels like they had nothing to do with each other.

Then I learned that Barnabas, Irenaeus and ancient Jewish tradition were already reading the creation week as a larger pattern of history: six days corresponding to six thousand years, followed by a seventh thousand-year Sabbath under Messiah. That does not mean Genesis says one day equals exactly 1,000 years, and it definitely does not mean we get to calculate the date of Christ’s return. But look at the order. Day Four establishes the lights for signs, appointed times, days and years.. and Messiah enters history near the end of the fourth millennium. Day Five fills the sea and sky with life commanded to multiply.. then the Gospel begins multiplying through the nations. Day Six creates man, tells him to multiply, fill the earth and exercise dominion over it.. and mankind has now done exactly that on a scale no previous generation could have imagined. Then Day Seven is different. No new creation. No more work. Rest.

That is the part I cannot get past. The Bible begins with seven days moving toward rest, and it ends with the King reigning, creation restored and God dwelling with man. I am not saying Genesis 1 gives us a date. I am saying I do not believe the seven days were arranged casually. Maybe Genesis does not only tell us how history started.. maybe the ending was sitting there on page one the entire time.
